Listen to Our Future Inc. is a youth empowerment program that provides educational services. They tutor children from grades K-6. The organization is inspired by social movements and aims to ensure that youth voices are at the center of social change. Their mission is equipping youth to make long-lasting changes in their community through education, empowerment, and social action.
My responsibilities include gathering content for the social media accounts. capturing images and videos, interviewing students on campus, and publishing the content on their social media platform. In addition, I also contribute to the newsletter every month.
Teamwork
Employees don't work together as often because the tutors are at different tutoring sites most of the time. But as far as coming together to discuss what is needed for the students, we would meet once a month to discuss what agendas the tutors need to hit and reflect. My supervisor and I meet for our one-on-one sessions for the program. We would discuss what I've done each week and what goals I wanted to achieve by the end of the week. We get to provide feedback at any point in time. I feel like I'm part of the team; I feel very comfortable.
Workplace Culture
Everyone treats each other with respect. It's open for us to give opinions and feedback. They are very supportive and show recognition to their staff very often. This is similar to my ideal workplace because you're supposed to feel comfortable and heard at our workplace, and even if things aren't going right, it's important to have excellent communication skills. What surprised me was how freely I got to work. I basically do my own thing and I will get feedback from my supervisor.
