Throughout my time at the Kelley School of Business, I’ve developed an emerging expertise in adaptive communication. This is the ability to connect, collaborate, and lead effectively across diverse environments. Each of the following experiences challenged me to adjust my approach, learn from others, and communicate with confidence. Whether in a nonprofit setting, an different country, or a competitive corporate environment, I learned that success often depends on understanding people, listening intentionally, and responding with purpose.
During my marketing internship with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northern Indiana Corridor through the Xtern program by TechPoint, I had the opportunity to contribute to a major organizational rebrand and manage several creative marketing projects. At the end of the summer, I was honored to receive the “Growth” Core Value Award, through the submission of my BGC manager, Lindahl Chase, to the TechPoint awards ceremony. This recognized my professional and personal development throughout the program. This experience taught me how to communicate ideas effectively across departments, embrace feedback, and grow through collaboration. This foundation continues to influence my professional approach today.
My study abroad program in Japan deepened my understanding of global business and cross-cultural communication. Through visits to companies such as Cummins Japan and the Tokyo Stock Exchange, as well as a joint project with students from Doshisha Women’s College, I learned how sustainability and innovation intersect with cultural values. This experience strengthened my ability to adapt my communication style, listen across language barriers, and collaborate effectively in diverse teams. It also gave me a broader appreciation for cultural empathy and global awareness in professional environments.
While interning at Keyence Corporation, I participated in an intensive sales competition where interns were challenged to analyze and pitch a product we were newly introduced to with the help of a sales manager to coach us. I was proud to be named one of the ten winners out of fifty interns. This experience honed my persuasive communication, quick problem-solving, and ability to perform under pressure. It reaffirmed my passion for sales and marketing, and it showed me how preparation, confidence, and adaptability are key to building meaningful connections in any professional setting.
These experiences collectively represent my growth as a communicator and professional. From nonprofit marketing to international collaboration to corporate sales, each opportunity helped me refine how I adapt, lead, and connect with others. Together, they demonstrate my readiness to enter the workforce as a marketing professional who values empathy, integrity, and continuous learning in every environment I engage with.
