My goal after my undergraduate degree is achieved, is to get my masters in Health Administration. I knew from an early age that I wanted to be in healthcare but was looking for something that was more on the business side, so health administration is the perfect fit for me. I also have found that having a dance minor allows me to work on the more art aspect of life so combining the business and the arts areas of my life have encouraged me to be a more well rounded student. Watch the video below to learn a bit more about me!
As a team member I am often a person that is good with keeping people on track. I prefer to remain organized so tasks can be accomplished in a timely manner. Along with this, I remain flexible in many situations so if I need to jump onto a different task, I make myself available to do that.
Throughout my internship, I have been able to increase my experience in working with a team that is much more educated than myself. This has helped me to learn from their experiences and wisdom about the college years and work that are to come. Not only that, but I am able to gain knowledge in being a team player by letting those that need to lead, instruct on what to do but if I am needed to lead the group, I am learning to do that as well.
Before starting my LHSI internship, I worked primarily at Chick-fil-a in Plainfield, Indiana. What was so great about this job is how much I learned about customer service and working in larger groups of people as a team. This has especially helped me now in classes because being in public health, teamwork is the only way to be successful. Sometimes it is important to be the leader and other times, it is important to let someone else lead. It has also taught me to be an independent thinker and work quickly and on my toes. Along with this, I have volunteered at my church's food pantry for the last 6 years. This has helped me develop an appreciation for my community and become closer with working for the benefit of the entire group. This has helped me to learn that working isn't just for your own benefit, it is so important to think of others while you are working.
Through these experiences, I have better learned that I like to have lots of responsibility. I like to have a list of tasks that need completed instead of just sitting, waiting for something else to come up. I have also learned that I need to work on things like becoming overwhelmed and being able to delegate what is important first.
As LHSI has continued, I have grown significantly as a professional. I have gained experience in data collection and analysis, problem solving and communication skills. My data collecting skills have grown in the fact that I have been doing a good amount of the data collection at my site since August so I have learned how to understand what data means and how to see the big picture. Many times the site team would all meet together and discuss how to solve issues we are facing and what the plan of action should be. This has enhanced my problem solving skills because I have been given the opportunity to see how other professionals go about solving problems and facing issues and can apply their techniques to my own repertoire.
