Prospective Students

Due to a large volume of requests I receive from students, I have compiled a list of requests below. Please read carefully when you contact me. Thank you!

For PhD students (of any fields) who ask me to be on your thesis committee:

My research focuses on improving the quality of healthcare services for individuals with chronic conditions. I define "healthcare services" and "chronic conditions" quite broadly. If 1) someone needs continuous intervention of some sort and 2) the quality of the intervention needs to be improved, there is a possibility that your research topic is aligned with mine

When you email me, please include the following. Based on the following, we can discuss the possibility of having me in your committee.

For MS students in the Health Informatics program who are planning to take B691:

The Capstone project—whether that be the thesis track or the project track—takes a lot of time to successfully complete. Students typically spend tens of hours per week to complete the project within one semester. Some students work over two semesters to complete the project. The safest ways that can gaurantee the timely completion of the Capstone project include: 1) taking B626 in your 3rd semester and prepare an executable project proposal (as a class activity/assignment), or 2) working with me for a few semesters based on the department funding and developing the plan before enrolling in B691.

For students (of any levels and any fields) who currently have funding (department funding included). If you want to be involved in my lab's research, please read the following before you email me. We can discuss the possibility of involving you in my research projects. Please keep in mind that initiation/continuation of research collaboration depends on your initiative and progress.

In addition, review my publication list, select one that is closer to what you envision to do, and specify the paper in the email.
