Research Overview
Welcome to my page! I am Hee Tae Jung, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (BMEI) at the Luddy School of Information, Computing, and Engineering (SICE), Indiana University Indianapolis (IU Indy). Before joining IU Indy, I earned my MS at Stanford University under the mentorship of Prof. Andrew Ng and completed my PhD and postdoctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Amherst under Prof. Ivan S. Lee. My primary research goal is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with chronic conditions and their caregivers, with a particular focus on improving stakeholder engagement and adherence. To achieve this, I leverage a wide range of technologies, including wearables, rehabilitation robots, serious games, VR/AR systems, and AI. My interdisciplinary research involves the development of technological solutions, the evaluation of their performance through pilot and clinical trials, and the investigation of their real-world impact.
I have published in leading health informatics, HCI, and clinical venues, including IEEE JBHI/TNSRE/BHI/EMBC, ACM TOCHI/CHI/CSCW/IMWUT and ASHA/AJSLP. My contributions have been recognized in both academic and industry contexts. Notably: My academic papers have been featured as a Cover Article of the Issue in IEEE JBHI, a Featured Article of the Issue in IEEE TNSRE, and have received the Best Paper Award at ACM CHI '24. I contributed to the development of Neuro-World, a cognitive training serious game suite, which was honored as an Innovation Award Honoree at CES 2020. My research is generously supported by the Alzheimer’s Association and Indiana Department of Health.
I actively pursue research funding and welcome contributions to support our efforts. If you are passionate about advancing community-engaged health informatics research, please consider making a donation to help support our students and their work.
