My Journey on S.S. InternShip

Hi all! My name is Ethan and I'm a Biology major pursuing an Epidemiology and Chemistry minor. I would love to work in drug development and gene therapy research in the future. I am also hoping to become a professor of biology or genetics. I will be working with Dr. Aoki at the Aoki lab this year and we are looking at the function of RNA complexes in C. Elegans. This site will serve as an exploration into my experiences during my internship as well as to reflect my growth in my discipline. You can contact me via email:

My-UPUI

I'm currently a Rising Sophomore at IUPUI's School of Science pursuing a B.A. in Biology with a minor in Epidemiology and Chemistry. I have been interested in biological sciences since I was very young but I took a particular interest in biology and drug development when I experienced a bout of acne during middle school and highschool. A lot has changed since those nights I was huddled up reading scientific articles; however my love for science and passionate curiosity have remained steadfast and grow every day as I learn what it means to be a contributor to the great network of knowledge that scientists have been creating for millennia. I am now focused on drug development and gene therapy as I have watched chronic illness take a toll on those I care about in my life. This ties in well with my minor in Epidemiology because I want to work on expanding access to healthcare and treatments to underserved communities. I hope to use my complimentary concentrations to better the lives of others and provide hope and care to those that are struggling with their health.

Importance of Collaboration

I have spent a lot of time in food service, volunteering, and working as a collective during my time in management. As such, I have grown my ability to give and receive constructive feedback and work collaboratively on solving problems. I also enjoy brainstorming with others as I believe that unique perspectives lead to more diverse and effective solutions. I am comfortable assuming leadership roles and I use my experience in management to assess challenges from both the role of leadership and that of those experiencing challenges. I am an excellent communicator and I believe this is my most valuable contribution to a team environment.

Below is a very brief description of the work that Aoki Lab does as a whole, as well as a brief description of the project I worked on.
