About Me

My Experiences and Skills:

    • The Service Industry and Volunteering:

I have been working since I was sixteen years old. My first job was at a Qdoba. I will not do you the displeasure of reciting my entire work history here, but I will say that what I have learned through my time working in the service industry is that there is always an opportunity for kindness and connection. My time spent as a barista and vape-shop manager highlighted this characteristic of the service industry. Beyond paid work, I spent some time working with community members of Indianapolis in Sunrise Indy and also volunteered at the Humane Society for Hamilton County. All of my experiences have underlined the desire of individuals within a community to become connected to it. I myself feel this desire and I think that my work in the service industry and volunteering have had a lasting influence on my perspective of team work and community involvement. Problem solving has been an invaluable skill that each of my experiences has taught me especially because some problems simply revolve around miscommunication rather than a systemic failure.

Through my time spent in the service industry I have found that I genuinely enjoy human connection and building relationships within my community. Something as simple as a five-minute conversation during someone's day can have a lasting impact and being able to create a positive moment for people is something that drives me. I also really enjoy problem solving and creating unique solutions. I think that my ability to articulate my thoughts has aided my communication which has in turn made understanding the perspectives of others better. I am of the opinion that in order to correct the systemic problems present in our society, the perspectives of as many unique individuals as possible is necessary. I have found that I also collaborate with others well and this has led to a lot of experiences, like store management, that I would have missed out on had this not been the case. Having said that, I do not really enjoy being responsible for the actions or growth of others but I think this may have more to do with my own budding growth rather than a genuine dislike of the work. I enjoy presenting solutions and leading exploratory conversations into solutions so it may be that I just need to solidify my confidence and qualifications to feel as if I should be the one to do those things.
