I want to become someone who uses the skills and knowledge that I have to help others. I want to take my intellectual ability and make it something useful that will benefit the lives of others in more ways than one. I want to pursue a career in the field of public health, particularly in drug research, working to make the lives of others better. I want to gain the skills needed to be a capable statistician. I will take my love for problem solving and apply it to the world that we live in today in order to solve some of the biggest problems facing our society today.
I want to become someone who lifts up the people around me. I would not be where I am today or who I am today without those who have helped me get there. I want to make sure that those people are properly thanked for all they’ve done. I also want to be a reliable person that others can depend on to help them reach their goals just as I have reached mine. No one can do it alone so I will make sure that no one has to.
I want to become someone who accomplishes the goals that I have set for myself. I want to spend the next year focusing on the more reachable goals that I have and ultimately work towards the more ambitious goals I have. I want to push myself every day, mentally and physically, to reach all of these goals. I want to become someone free of worry and anxiety about what I can do better and what others think because at the end of the day all that matters is my own success and how I feel about myself.
I am a creative individual who loves to read, write, and solve problems. I have many goals to accomplish in the future and I am driven to take steps to get there someday. I crave information, taking it in through any medium I can and subsequently sharing with others. I love the simple things and value the seemingly monotonous routine of day to day life.
H-200 Reflection
When writing my "I Am" and "I Want to Become" statements in H-200, I was in my second semester of college. I had just graduated high school the previous spring and was still trying to find my place at IUI. There were still areas of my future career and even myself that I did not know that I still had yet to discover.
Updated Statements
I want to become a person who pushes myself to achieve the things that I want. I want to be able to set goals for myself and then accomplish them successfully. Through attaining this goals, I will become the best version of myself, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
I want to become someone who gives back to others. I want to take the things that I have been given and do what I can to pay it forward to others. I want to make a positive impact on the lives of others in every way that I can. I want to serve those in my community the best way that I can.
I want to be a role model for those who may look up to me as well as be a good listener to learn from those that I look up to. I believe that setting a good example for those who come after me will allow for positive change to be made and felt throughout all of society. I also believe that learning from those who have come before myself is how I can learn lessons on how to live and give back to my community.
I am a dedicated individual who tries my hardest in whatever I do. I know I will not succeed at everything on the first try, but I will keep attempting until I do. I am an individual who likes to bring people together, using my humor and intellect to foster a welcoming environment wherever I am. I find value in the constant challenges life has, overcoming and adapting however I can. I am someone that I am proud of.
Reflection
Looking back on my personal statements from H-200 I can see the ways in which I have grown. I have become a more confident and secure version of myself. In my first year of college I was still valuing what others believed to be true about me more than what I believed about myself. I see this as one of the biggest changes from then to now. I also see that I have been able to dedicate myself to things that help me to grow as a person. Whether volunteering with church organizations, helping to coach youth softball, or promoting outreach programs I have been able to give back to the community that has given so much to me.
When I look back now, I also am able to identify ways where I have continued to be consistent. I am still a driven person, like I was in H-200, and achieving my goals is something that is so important to me still. I think I will always be pushing myself to acheive the things that I want in life. These goals may be something different, like trying to read the entire Bible in a year or bench press 135, or they may stay the same from year to year, like trying to read consistently. Whatever my goals are, I am confident in my ability to stay consistent and accomplish them to the best of my ability and I know that will never change.
Journey Maps
The journey map on the left shows my H-200 Journey Map. It highlights some of my important accomplishments and things that I had done in life up to the second semester of my freshman year. This shows my overall journey up until becoming an Honors Scholar at IU Indy. This map starts when I was young, first learning to read, and covers events up until 2023 when I decided to enroll at IU Indy.
The map on the right shows my journey after becoming an Honors Scholar at IU Indy. It shows the experiences that have been most important to me throughout my time at IUI. It shows experiences that have been integral to my development, both as a student and as a person in general. This map spans from my enrollment in August 2023 to now currently in 2026.

Reflection
When I compare my H-200 Journey Map to my H-496 Journey Map, there are a few important things that stand out to me. First of all, the experiences listed on my H-200 Journey Map still are very important to my growth, development, and who I am today. Without those events, I would not be the same person I am today. However, when I look at where I thought I would end up in my initial map to the events in my updated journey map, the two are not the same. When I completed my first journey map, I figured that the academic journey ahead of me would be straight forward and end up with me primarily focusing on statistics. While I did learn more about statistics, and biostatistics specifically, I also learned so much more. I discovered more about public health and real strategies that are implemented by those in the field. I learned a total of 10 different programming languages, when I had previously known zero. I learned more about myself and what I valued personally instead of what I thought I would fit best with. I am very grateful for my overall experience at IUI and in the Honors College as it has helped me recognize things about myself I did not previously know.
