Course Overview

The Summer Ecotourism Study Abroad experience focuses on promoting responsible and sustainable travel known as "green" travel. Best practices of green travel impose minimal impact when visiting tourist destination, aspects our students will put into practice during their trip. Content of the course covers the following:

• How to motivate and change travel behavior

• Visit destinations to assist in improving the well-being of local residents

• Support of local business to stimulate economic development

• Respect cultures and local traditions

• Educate traveler on environmental awareness and ecological conservation

The class will travel to Costa Rica, a destination known for its ecotourism and sustainability since the 1990s. Costa Rica is a perfect destination for students to focus on sustainability and responsible travel. Students will stay in eco-lodges, hike in the rainforest, raft, enjoy local foods, shop at locally-owned tourist businesses, and have unforgettable experiences!
