Hello, My name is Angelica Gonzalez. I am a Junior majoring in Health Sciences on a Pre-PA track. I was always interested in helping people and healthcare sparked an interest with me ever since a young age. Health Sciences has allowed me to learn a background not only about the US healthcare but many other countries and allowed me to understand also health and human body but also prepares me to work as a PA and pursuing grad school. My internship is the ECHO Center working with technology to help reduce disparities in communities. I'll be sharing my internship experience on this site.
As a first-gen Mexican American I have always grown up to see language barriers in my community and wanted to make a change as a PA being able to work face to face with patients. Over this year at my internship I have been able to grow as an individual and student. I am so happy I got to learn so much information and skills that help me right now currently and will be useful in the future. This internship site has also created a better foundation on how health professionals do more in this world and how to collaborate professionally with others. It is inspiring to see the program specialists be involved in leading presentations and speakers coming to talk about interesting topics followed by case presentation of real life scenarios. I have also been honored to join along side with some fellow interns to see an INPEP peer educator graduation. I have been involved with INPEP data entry and seeing the paperwork side of things of how the program is going which easily allows me to forget that each paper is a real person. I got to visit the Correctional Industrial Facility and see how the INPEP program has benefited these inmates and helping them educate each other and put a different perspective of how my work plays out in the real world.
