About the Internship

My internship is a Muscle Biology Lab who focuses on conducting different research concerning muscle and health benefits. However, my group specifically focuses on overweight/pre-diabetic people and we introduce them to strength training exercise. Thus, we see if they acquire the same benefits and if we inspire them to workout rather than introducing them to the norm which is aerobic exercise.

Workplace

My current strength as a team member is my ability to communicate with people very well and get them to at least consider the study. It is crucial for me to be able to get people's attention because my job is to recruit people to be able to conduct the study and I do a very good job at it. My team role changed over the course of the internship by becoming more confident in the job I was accomplishing and being more involved with my team. For example, asking questions on how to do my job more efficiently or getting to know my coworkers aside from just the internship. I want to be able to gain more knowledge in the muscle aspect of this internship and as a professional. Thus, I can pitch in more and connect better with my teammates who know more about this field. So far, I have been able to expand my knowledge on muscle biology overall. Although not completely aligned with my career, I do have a hobby on muscle hypertrophy which is something my team has discussed a lot. I would like to continue to grow in understanding how studies are started/history because most of the studies that are being conducted right now were already started when I joined this team. My contribution impacted the larger project of my internship because without my part, they would have no subjects to conduct their study which is a huge contribute to the success of my team. I have learned that no matter what stage you are in in your career path, the contribution of everyones own perspective and experiences can lead to a bigger success. These perspectives helped build the team because some of them have a PHD, others are undergrad, and others have been at this for a while. Therefore, their experiences help see things other may not.
