I am currently a Sophomore seeking a B.S. in Forensic & Investigative Science and a B.S. in Chemistry. I am also pursuing a Pre-Med pathway.
Forensic science has always been an interest of mine but while searching for a career path, I overlooked this key interest. When finally realizing that this career was something I would look forward to participating in on a daily basis, I began to focus my academics on preparing me for this adventure. Forensic pathology in particular is an interest of mine because determining the cause of death of a person is a significant factor in providing unknown answers to law enforcement and family members. Allowing families to feel at ease after receiving the information and comfort they longed for, is the main determinant of my interest in this career
As a team member, I always strive to put my best foot forward because others are relying on the work you are putting forth. I work to achieve this by being organized, inclusive, dedicated, communicating effectively, and maintaining a positive attitude. By actively interrelating with the surrounding community of IUPUI and Indianapolis through volunteering and club participation, I have continued to build on these skills and have realized their impact on the team dynamic. Through both independent and collaborative work settings, I have gained a strong work ethic that capitalizes on professionalism, communication, and cultural competence.
Since starting at IUPUI in the fall of 2021, I have become involved in a number of clubs and experiences. Right away I began as an Honors Scholar and Bonner Leader, both of which allowed for a sense of community and belonging in a new place. Currently, I am a part of Academics for Civic Engagement (ACE), ALDPES, American Medical Women's Association (AMWA), Baking Club, Biology Club, Chemistry Club, and Forensic Science Club. While simply being a part of clubs provides you with diverse connections, great experiences, and transferable skills, I wanted to become more involved and make an impact by joining the executive board. Through this desire, I became the Secretary of the Forensic Science Club, the Scrapbook Committee Chair of ALDPES, and the Treasurer of ACE. Gaining these roles has helped me better understand the work that goes into running organizations and has taught me to be more of a leader in my everyday life.
Through my involvement, I have been able to volunteer at a variety of places such as Exodus Refugee Immigration, Paw's Pantry, Fair Haven, Newfields, etc. Recently, after having a great experience at Gleaners Food Bank, I began volunteering there regularly. By volunteering at their physical food pantry and drive-thru food pantry, I have learned that the surrounding Indianapolis community depends on the support of Gleaners. While some volunteering opportunities do not deal directly with those who it supports, here, you are able to see the effect it has on people. After volunteering at Gleaners, I was surprised by what was able to be accomplished in a professional yet fun environment. I also enjoyed the willingness and positivity that each of the volunteers had.

While in high school, I wanted to be as involved as I could be in a small school in rural Indiana, but I also wanted my experiences to matter and aid in the betterment of my community and myself. During my time at South Central, I was a part of the National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America (FFA), Spanish Club, the Yearbook Staff, Student Council, Prom Committee, and 4-H. I also was a volunteer at the local food pantry. Each of these experiences offered its own unique identity and taught me the value of diversifying my school participation. While I was gaining similar skills, such as leadership, communication, responsibility, and a good work ethic, I was learning them from different perspectives and through exposure to different styles. My involvement in high school allows for the same passion to be carried throughout my life and incorporated into my future endeavors.
