I interned for 11 weeks at Deaconess Women's Hospital. For 5.5 weeks, I spent time in Labor and Delivery shadowing a PCT and/or RN. I had the opportunity of obtaining vitals, giving baby baths, and watching a few births and a circumcision. I've learned many things from this experience. One of the things that I learned was how important communication is within the hosptial setting. I also learned how to clean/set up rooms, discharge patients, and insert vitals and other information into the computer system. For the other 5.5 weeks, I spent time in Med/Surg. While in this department, I also obtained vitals. This connects to my career goals, because I wish to work in the hospital, but with babies specifically, so labor and delivery was a perfect spot to gain experience to see if it is still something that I wish to do.
I spent 2 years volunteering at Oasis. During my time, I learned patience and empathy. A few of the things that I participated in were leading group activities and taking residents to dinner and/or to movies for the evening movie. Although this does not directly connect to the career I wish to pursue, it is still part of healthcare. This is on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of career choice, but I really enjoyed being there every week.

My goal was to volunteer at Riley Children's Hospital. However, when I applied, I found out that they weren't taking any other volunteers until the spring semester, in which I was going to apply for.
However, since I am now moving, I plan to go back to volunteering at both Oasis and Deaconess.
