Assertive communication in a professional environment.
Prior to beginning the internship authority figures often times intimidated me, resulting in a lack of communication. This internship has taught me how to work collaboratively with authority figures and communicate my needs and questions. I have learned this through multiple meetings with my supervisor and asking questions when needed.
Acceptance of feedback
Often times I struggle with viewing feedback in a positive way. Throughout this internship I have received a consistent feedback to improve my research and writing processes. Through this feedback I have been able to gain a new perspective on the importance of feedback in a workplace.
Research Skills (ex. data collection )
The scoping review project I have completed has required me to learn multiple research skills. One skill I have been able to grow exponentially in is my ability to collect data accurately. I have been able to learn how to use programs such as RedCap and how to decipher what information is important and what is not.
Collaboration and communication:
As stated in previous sections the diverse environment of the institute allows for efficient and frequent collaboration. This collaboration has allowed me to learn how to work effectively with my teammates. I have done so by attending weekly meetings where I take constructive criticism and ask questions.
Skills I would like to work on:
Work-life balance
Through the rest of this internship and into the future I hope to continue to work on my work-life balance. Throughout the rest of my life I will be faced with having to balance work and life. This skill is important to ensure that I do not get burnt out and easily exhausted.
