TAG Course Descriptions

Welcome to This Year's TAG Summer Camp!

Read each course description. Click on each video to get more information about each TAG course presented by the instructor. View them to help determine which classes you would like to take during TAG Camp. You will be ranking them in order of your preference (1-10) on the registration form. Your preferences do not guarantee a specific course, but we will do our best to get you into some of your top selections! Your final schedule will include four courses and you will go to each course every day of camp.

TV and Film: Media Exploration

This course provides students with a deep understanding of the multifaceted world of visual media, focusing on cinema and television. Through a blend of theoretical exploration and practical application, students will delve into key areas including film history, narrative production, screenwriting, TV series production, and career preparation within the industry.

Forensic Detectives: Unraveling the Mystery!

Calling all junior forensic scientists! Prepare for an adventure in our crime solving forensics course. Dive headfirst into the captivating world of crime-solving as you collect evidence, analyze crime scene traces, and use science to solve a perplexing crime. Try your hand at fingerprinting, blood typing, stomach content analysis and much more to uncover the truth about what really happened. Are you up for the challenge? Let the investigation begin!

Art Meets Science: Let’s Glow!

Have you ever created a really awesome work of art and wondered how it would look if it glowed in the dark? This glow lab will provide you with the materials to make really fun art and science projects that can be enjoyed in daylight or under the black light. Optical illusions, lava lamps and 3D sculptures are just a few of the glowing projects we will do in this course! Let's see what happens when Art meets Science!

The Art of Creating Books

Come explore papermaking, bookbinding and journaling! This course will include making paper from recycled materials, experimenting with printmaking techniques, as well as how to add pop-ups inside of sketchbooks! Students will be introduced to various bookmaking techniques such as a Pamphlet, Saddle Stitch, Japanese Stab, and Coptic Stitch bindings. Come see how art, science, and engineering merge together to create exciting books!

For the Love of LEGOs

Are you ready to use your Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills? For The Love of LEGOS will be a hands-on STEM course. Each day will include LEGO challenges - Some challenges will be completed independently, while others will include collaboration with a team! Are you ready for the challenge?

Art: An Introduction to the 7 Elements

Come dive into the creative process and learn all about the 7 Elements of Art - line, shape, form, space, value, color and texture! Participants will gain beginners' knowledge and hands-on experiences with each element while creating unique projects. In this course you can expect to expand your artistic skills by creating fun and beautiful pieces of art!

2024: The Year of the Dragon

In this hands-on Art-oriented course you will create painting, drawing, and sculpture artworks while exploring dragon motifs used in art by many cultures around the world. We will make paintings of dragons inspired by Lunar New Year celebrations in China, Japan, Hong Kong and other countries. Medieval European artwork will further inspire drawn and painted illuminated letters, or family crests, incorporating dragons into the designs. Contemporary artists in Mexico use papier mâché and paint to create patterned animal sculptures, including dragons. We will make our own versions of these hybrid animals called alebrijes. Come celebrate the Year of the Dragon through exploration of Art!

Technical Communication and Design with LEGOs

Do you enjoy playing with LEGOs? In this course, expect to have fun with your peers to create original builds and design technical materials that help others! What does that mean? You will learn about technical design and communication for diverse audience needs, all while having fun with LEGOs!
