The mission of the F.E. Peacock Middle School library program is to foster and enhance the ideals set forth by the district to provide students with a positive educational environment, quality academic & extracurricular opportunities and to develop empathetic, culturally competent members of society. Our libraries cultivate collaboration, research, critical thinking, representation, and a love of reading to empower our students to not only be their authentic selves but to also be responsible, curious, passionate learners.
We accomplish our mission by:
Preparing engaging library lessons that are consistent with the Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries documents (I-SAIL) that promote information literacy.
Facilitating global learning experiences to broaden our students perspectives through digital literacy.
Providing students with access to culturally rich books and resources that embrace and promote diversity.
Continuously evaluating and updating our technology and material collections to ensure there are no gaps in resources or representation and that students are getting the best 21st century learning opportunities that keep up with our ever-changing world.
The Peacock Middle School Library is a safe and engaging environment that promotes the academic and personal education and intellectual freedom of its students and staff. In doing so, the Peacock Middle School beliefs align with the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Act.
We believe:
A strong and well-developed school library is instrumental in fostering a love of reading, building student success, and preparing well-rounded, global citizens.
Library instruction supports and meets the standards of grade level and library curriculum and offers innovative learning opportunities and experiences.
Our library collection is representative of our school community and all of the students and families it serves and accessible to every type of learner.
Students should become ethical users of all types of information.
The library is a safe and accessible place for students to freely pursue their own interests, passions, and curiosities.
