IB Learner Profile

The Learner Profile is a list of characteristics you should be trying to develop as you move through the MYP years. Refer back to this page occasionally to think of examples when you last demonstrated being:

INQUIRERS

You are naturally curious and enthusiastic. You learn research and inquiry skills so that you can learn independently and with others. You actively enjoy learning and will continue to do so.

OPEN-MINDED

You understand and appreciate your own culture and personal history and are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of other individuals and communities. You seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and you are willing to grow from the experience.

KNOWLEDGEABLE

You explore and develop your knowledge and understanding of concepts across the different subjects you are studying. You explore and think about ideas and issues that have local and global importance.

CARING

You show empathy, compassion and respect the needs and feelings of others. Through service, you are personally committed to making a positive difference to the lives of others and the world around us.

THINKERS

Through careful, critical and creative thinking you take action and solve complicated problems. You take the initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.

RISK TAKERS

You approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with determination and consideration. You work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and inventive strategies. You face changes and challenges with resourcefulness and strength.

COMMUNICATORS

You can understand and express yourself confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. You collaborate effectively and are willing to listen carefully to the ideas and viewpoints of others.

BALANCED

You understand the importance of balancing the academic, physical and emotional aspects of your life so that you achieve well-being for yourself and others. You recognise your interdependence with others and the world in which you live.

PRINCIPLED

You act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of all those around you. You take responsibility for your actions and their consequences.

REFLECTIVE

You give thoughtful consideration to the world, your own learning and experience. You work towards understanding your own strengths and weaknesses so that you learn and grow as a person.
