A Touch of Tradition: Spring Family Moments
At the end of March, the ISSH community gathered once again for our cherished annual Spring Family Moments event, celebrating the season with the timeless tradition of egg colouring.
This year’s activity was not just creative, but also deeply rooted in nature and cultural heritage. Families came together to take part in a traditional method of dyeing eggs that dates back generations and uses only natural materials.
The process began with a walk into the local forest, where participants collected plants, flowers, and herbs, nature’s own art supplies. These leaves and petals were carefully placed onto the eggs, creating delicate patterns. To hold the natural ‘stamps’ in place, we used pieces of old tights, gently wrapping them around the eggs to keep the foliage secure.
The eggs were then placed in pots of traditional wood-based dye, a natural colouring method that brings out earthy tones and unique marbling effects. As the eggs cooked, the combination of heat, plant impressions, and natural dye created beautiful, one-of-a-kind designs.
More than just a craft, this event celebrated the changing season, the bonds of family, and the beauty of sustainable creativity. It was a reminder that the most special moments are those spent together, honouring both our traditions and the environment. We're grateful to all who participated, making this Spring Family Moments a cherished highlight of the season.

The Family Hub is 6 months old! Since our opening in August last year we have had: 5 events, 1 workshop and 2 clubs at the Hub, as well as three Stay and Play sessions each week and the International Playgroup! However, we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you and your family who come and use our spacious learning environment. Thank you to all of our families and if you haven’t yet visited, come and see us! We’re open Monday, Wednesday and Fridays for Stay and Play.

We had our second mommy and toddler art today, led by Juliana Centola. This week was a winter theme and everyone created a winter mobile and some Christmas decorations.
The children have been busy with our activities related to the themes, ‘Pumpkins’ and ‘Nursery Rhymes’. Wheels on the Bus and Sleeping Bunnies are two particularly popular songs.
