In the final year of the Primary Years Programme, students participate in a culminating project known as the Exhibition. This is a rigorous, challenging and, ultimately, extremely rewarding experience that requires students to draw upon the abilities they have developed as inquirers during their time in the programme. Students are required to engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary, inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. The Exhibition, which involves all the essential elements of the Primary Years Programme (Knowledge, Concepts, Skills, and Action), provides students with a meaningful platform to showcase their understanding and abilities.
The students carry out the Exhibition under one of the six Transdisciplinary Themes.
Having explored the Transdisciplinary theme, students identify a topic that they wish to inquire into. This must link with the theme, be personally interesting, and provide enough scope for an in-depth inquiry.
The next step is to write three or four lines of inquiry that will drive the inquiry and help them to explore the central idea.
Now the inquiry begins! Students consult a range of primary and secondary sources to carry out their investigations.
Students synthesize the information they have gathered and draw conclusions from their findings. (This learning is represented both orally and through extended pieces of writing.)
Based on these conclusions, students take responsible action.
Finally, students present their Exhibition to all members of the school community.
Throughout the unit, students reflect on the process and their learning.
