Glass Xylophones
Materials Needed
• 8 wine glasses, drinking glasses or jars ideally the same or almost the same size
•Water
• Metal spoon
• Food coloring (not required – just for fun)
What to do:
Arrange the eight glasses in front of you in a line.
Fill each of the glasses with different levels of water. (You can add food coloring just for fun if you like.)
Tap the first glass with the spoon and listen to the sound.
Then try another. Each glass will have a different sound. Can you tell the difference?
Try creating a song or a simple tune. Ask some friends to make their own xylophone and play along.
