Panama Borders by Woo YeonWoo, Nicolas Olloqui and Abraham Faskha
This treaty was agreed to in April 1914 between United States and Colombia. It is named after Francisco Jose Urrutia and Tratado Thompson.
The goal of the treaty was to reestablish diplomatic contacts. Colombia would accept the delineation of the border with Panama as well as the recognition of Panama as a free and independent country.
This contract was approved by the Colombian government. The agreement and the payment of $25,000,000 to Colombia were accepted by the US Senate on April 20, 1921.
The Thomson-Urrutia Treaty's procedure and provisions prompted the Panamanian government to object through Ricardo J. Alfaro.Â
Panama did not participate in the discussions or the consultation process for this agreement. With the delineation border and economic gains, Panama suffered.
