Yet again, the talented ISM dance troupe has blown the crowd away by producing a fast-paced and captivating performance called “Escape.” “Escape” was directed by the head dance teacher of ISM, Ms. Yek Barlongay and choreographed by the students, who showcased an outstanding combination of plot development through a variety of stage levels, dance styles, and shifts in music.
Most of the dance is set in a state of urgency, inferring that they are trying to escape from a greater power. Throughout the performance, the dancers appeared lost and scared, as if they were panicking and trying to run away from something.
The team consists of 11 girls and 1 boy, all of whom executed their roles to the best of their abilities. The dance was complemented by exciting and extraordinary props that enhanced their idea of “Escape.” They awed the audience with their physicality and unique equipment, including trampolines and bungee cords, and each segment surely kept the audience intrigued and fascinated through the diverse, widespread use of special effects.
One of the most memorable moments involved the effective use of laser pointers darting across the stage. This invoked a confined feeling for both the audience and the dancers. The use of technology was not only immensely creative, but also captivated the audience, who remained silent as they watched in awe.
According to the ISM dance troupe, “Escape means to break free from confinement or control. A montage exploring the obstacles and constrictions imposed by modern day society and the attempts made to overcome these daily challenges.” Indeed, people come across difficulties on a daily basis; however, ISM’s dance troupe beautifully and artistically represented how each one of us should not escape the challenges we face, but to rise to meet them.
