Maktab Curriculum

Iqra Academy's after-school Maktab provides a structured, nurturing environment designed to foster our students' pursuit of sacred knowledge built upon the pedagogical belief that character development—or Tarbiyah—is as essential as academic excellence, ensuring that children flourish in both their spiritual identity and their daily conduct. 

Integrated into our unique Maktab curriculum will be a step-wise pedogogy for taking students from the basics of Qaidah (foundations) to Tajweed (proper pronunciation), to Tilawah (recitation) with Tarteel (melody) and Tahseen (beautification), and ultimately to Tahfidh (memorization).  Our dedicated and qualified teachers guide students starting from the basics of Qur'an reading through the following levels:

- Qaidah: Foundation for Qur'anic reading, introduction to the Arabic alphabet, proper letter pronunciation (Makharij), vowels (harakat, madd), and joining letters into words and sentences
- Rules of Tajweed: Reading Qur'an with the proper characteristics and articulations, learning how to merge letters and conceal sounds, knowing where to start, stop, or pause in recitation
- Nadhirah:  Applying all the rules of Tajweed  as we complete one full recitation of the Holy Qur'an
- Hifdh:  Embark on the memorization of the Qur'an with a mastery in Tajweed and Makharij

Our Islamic Studies curriculum places a high focus on Akhlaq (character) and Tarbiyah (holistic nurturing) while introducing students to the basic tenets of our faith, including:

- Aqaid: Core Belief System of Islam
- Fiqh: Applications of Islamic Principles
- Hadith: Actions and Sayings of the Prophet ﷺ
- Seerah: Biography of the Prophet ﷺ
- Akhlaq: Morality and Ethics
- Adab: Manners and Etiquette
Students not only learn the fundamental components behind each doctrine, but also how to transform each belief into practical ibadah.

Our curriculum for Islamic Studies and Qur'an is built upon the Safar Publications framework, a field-tested program designed to foster a deep-rooted love for the faith and the development of strong moral character. By integrating their comprehensive online resources, we provide parents with the tools they need to support their children’s growth, ensuring that the lessons learned at Iqra Academy resonate throughout the home.

A unique highlight of our program is the emphasis on communal worship. Students have the distinct opportunity to perform Salah in congregation under the guidance of our beloved Shaykh Nasser Hussein, followed by a Halaqa of dhikr and reflection, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical devotion, all while building lasting friendships in a supportive, faith-based community.
