A little more about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

When you look around the world, and you start to notice the many problems we face, it is easy to get discouraged. Some people have plenty of food, resources and opportunities. At the same time, many people have a hard time providing for themselves and their families. Some people have access to many opportunities, while others face discrimination and bias. On top of that, we see evidence of pollution and other environmental issues all around us.

Throughout history, humans have faced problems. This is nothing new. We know that problems which  are created by people, can be solved by people. This optimism is what inspired the United Nations to  launch the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These SDGs were presented to the world in January 2016. They identify the 17 most urgent problems in the world. The United Nations challenges all the governments and citizens of the world to help solve these problems by 2030.

The Sustainable Development Goals help us to change the way we look at the world. Instead of seeing a long list of problems, we see people working on solutions. Our ISL community is excited to be a part of that movement.
