Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations, in which students are able to learn about international relations, diplomacy and the role of the UN in an engaging and fun way. This is a great preparation for further external conferences such as HMUN, MUNISH and even beyond graduation. With a bit of research of the assigned country, students will discuss over current world issues on behalf of their country. The final aim of an MUN conference is to draw resolutions and find solutions to given issues.
Through Model United Nations, you will be able to:
engage in current world issues
explore the opinions of various countries
develop debating skills
Delegate
Participant of the conference representing a country (usually one that they are not from) or organization in a committee and debate on issues from that countries point of view (rather than their personal perspective).
Chair
Supervise their appointed committee, direct the debate and ensure that everything goes accordingly. This is for experienced delegates.
Admin
Undertake tasks in their committees such as note passing between delegates, during voting procedure they must suspend all note passing and seal the doors. This is aimed for MP2 students.
Participation in MUN teaches participants about decision-making, compromise, leadership and collaboration. MUN allows the young citizens of the world to come together to discuss and resolve the current issues of the world.
These same principles are what led to the founding of the Model United Nations Club here at the ISE, as well as the Model United Nations of International School Eindhoven in 2018. We at the MUN Club are committed to supporting students to develop their academic skills while becoming conscious of the issues of the world around them.
We encourage all students to join this club, as it aids students in becoming familiar with a higher degree of academic writing; students develop their debate skills, speech-writing and public speaking skills, and learn to look at issues from different perspectives. It also helps in university applications.
