The iDU stands for Interdisciplinary Unit, which in this case is done between the English and Individuals and Societies subjects for the MYP4s at the ISE. The project will be over three days for the MYP4 students and will challenge them to work with various skills, content, and concepts. By the end of the three days, the students will have lobbies, debated, written a resolution, and completed a summative Position Paper task for their final grade.
The project runs under a Challenge Based Learning (CBL) format, where students will be tasked with using their individual critical, creative, and transfer thinking skills, collaboration and research skills to further their own learning process and develop a unique learning style. The IDU project will teach them skills in teamwork, diplomacy, communication, and research, as well as making them more aware of the global political, economic, and social landscape
The overarching theme of the project is Quality Education. The students will be tasked with looking at one country's education, judging it based on how well it has reached the goal of Quality Education, and debating with other delegates to evaluate and move forward towards the SDG. Some additional questions the delegates will be considering are:
Can an internationally agreed-upon schooling system be reached?
How can social, economic, and political differences be taken into consideration for education?
These will help guide the debate and make a final resolution easier to achieve.
The IDU will run in collaboration with the Niños de Guatemala group, an organisation focusing on giving quality education to a school. There will be a Guest Speaker coming to speak to the students about the organisation and what quality education means to them. The collaboration will allow the students to see that Quality Education does not always mean the same thing in different countries and living situations, and will give them more perspective on the topic of debate.
