Ensembles Offered at St. James Middle/High School: 

• 6th Grade Beginning Band (Period 2: A/C Days)

• Jr. High Band (Period 3A)

• Jr. Jazz (7:30am-8:00am Tuesdays/Thursdays)

• Sr. High Band (Period 4B)

• Jazz Unlimited (7:30am-8:00am Mondays/Wednesdays)

Students have the opportunity to join band starting as young as 6th grade. We hope to help provide students will as much opportunity and flexibility as possible. 

We offer the following musical instruments in our ensemble:

• Flute

• Clarinet

• Alto Saxophone

• French Horn

• Trumpet

• Trombone

• Baritone

• Tuba

• Percussion (at least 2 years of piano experience PREFERRED)

• Students have the opportunity when they get into Jr. & Sr. High to switch to instruments like Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, and Bass Guitar.

MS. KALYN KELLY

DIRECTOR OF BANDS

Ms. Kelly has been the Director of Bands at St. James Middle/High School since 2021. She got her bachelor's degree in K-12 Classroom & Instrumental Education at Minnesota State University, Mankato and is currently getting her master's there as well. She strives to include all students in her ensembles and hopes to help continue to grow the band program into a safe, fun, learning environment where students learn to push themselves as musicians.

She has had many opportunities performing around the Southern Minnesota area and around the United States. She has had the wonderful opportunity to performed at places like the Super Bowl LII, Minnesota Wild Hockey Game, and Drum Corp. Association (DCA) Championship in Rochester, NY. She currently participates in the Minnesota River Valley Ensemble, Govenaires Drum & Bugle Corp., St. Peter High School Pit Orchestra, Blue Earth High School Pit Orchestra, Worthington High School Pit Orchestra and Fairmont City Band.
