Senior Portraits

Submitting Senior Portraits

Seniors are asked to take their own pictures to submit for the yearbook. These can be taken by a professional photographer, friend/family member, or by a member of our yearbook staff (upon request). See attached handout at the bottom of the page for more information about senior portraits.

The preferred deadline for submitting senior portraits is FRIDAY, JANUARY 29th, 2021. This allows time to organize, design, and proof pictures.

Senior portraits MUST be submitted by MONDAY, MARCH 1st, 2021 or you/your student might not make it into the yearbook.

Senior Portrait Specifications

Please review the specifications for your senior portraits to make sure that a quality image is submitted to Yearbook Staff.

H:Senior Portrait Specs

Photo Specifications Quick Reference:

Senior Portrait Specifications:

  • Photos should meet the following specifications for size and file type.

    • Minimum of 300 dpi (2 ⅕ x 3 ½ inches OR 240 x 336 pixels)

    • High Resolution File

    • JPG or PNG Files ONLY

Senior Portrait Guidelines:

  • Many portrait sessions provide students and photographers with a variety of different poses, colorizations, and shots. While these options are great for handing out to friends and family, sharing at grad parties, or using in graduation ads, there are guidelines for the portrait section of the yearbook that need to be met.

    • Head and shoulder shots only. When students choose full-body shots, the level of detail in the image is lost and/or the majority of the shot will be cropped to include only the head and shoulders. To avoid this, please submit a head and shoulder shot to alleviate these issues.

    • School Appropriate Clothing. Please refrain from wearing clothing that is revealing or indecent in nature. This applies to writing/logos on clothing and the general fit of the clothes. Please note that the West administration previews these photos prior to submission and reserves the right to reject a photo due to inappropriate dress. See the Mankato West Student Handbook for the current dress code policy.

    • No props. This includes instruments, pets/animals, athletic equipment, hobby items, and vehicles. Your portrait should just be you. Again, photos taken with props may be used in the grad ad section of the yearbook.

    • Photos must be vertical (portrait). When students submit horizontal (landscape) shots, there are similar sizing issues to those who submit full-body images.

RECOMMENDATION: COLOR photos, please. The senior portait pages usually consist of a black background. When students use black and white photos, elements of the image can be lost within the background. Please think carefully when choosing the coloration of your photos.

How to Submit Your Senior Portrait:

Once these pictures are taken, there are several different ways you can submit senior portraits.

  1. EMAIL: Photographs can be emailed directly to mmayra1@isd77.org by you or your photographer.

  2. HAND-DELIVERED #1: Photographs can also be delivered to Ms. Mayra in room 210.

    • Please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope if you need your picture returned.

  3. HAND-DELIVERED #2: Photographs can also be delivered/mailed to the Main Office at Mankato West [C/O Yearbook/Mayra].

    • Please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope if you need your picture returned.

Proofing Your Senior Portrait:

  • In order to help us ensure that your picture meets both your and our standards, please listen to or read the announcements in the daily bulletin and check your school email in the spring as we will send out proofing surveys to all students.
