We work strategically to provide a safe and caring school environment in which students and staff feel safe, positively connected to others, respected, comfortable and accepted. We thrive to continue to build a supportive culture and nurture meaningful relationships with students, staff and families.
Each fall, beginning with the fall of 2022, Owatonna Public Schools surveys students, staff, and families to gather data on their perceptions on school climate and other topics related to the district's desired daily experiences. Survey results for several key questions from the student survey aligned to the Safe & Caring Community strategic direction are graphed in these slides. For a complete report on the Fall 2022 Desired Daily Experiences, visit the report site here.
PBIS, or Postive Behavior Interventions and Support, is a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional, and behavior support in schools. PBIS improves social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students. Implementation includes an emphasis on intentional family and community engagement. LEARN MORE
Owatonna Public Schools has implemented PBIS strategies in all four elementary schools, Owatonna Middle School, and the ALC.
Owatonna Public Schools engage families throughout the year with regular communication, newsletters, social media posts, and planned family engagement events throughout the year as we work to build a strong partnership between school and home. Schools plan an average of 8 to 10 events per year for a variety of purposes. A sampling of these include before school interviews, open houses, conferences, multi-lingual family nights, science fair, and more. Multi-lingual success coaches in each school work directly with multi-lingual families throughout the year.
When students actively engage with the school community by participating in school-sponsored activities, they help to build the relationships with fellow students and caring adults that underpin a safe and caring school community. Owatonna Public School District offers a wide range of opportunities for all students to pursue their passions and share their talents in school-sponsored activities.
A strong community education program supports a thriving community of life-long learners. Community Education in Owatonna offers hundreds of learning opportunities and activities for children, youth, and adults in our community each year.
Quality Early childhood education for all children is a vital ingredient to support child, family, and community development and well-being. Owatonna Public Schools serve hundreds of our community's children and families each year through early childhood programs and services.
Ensuring that students are well-fed and healthy is essential for a safe and caring community.
