Kirsten Van Rybroek
This is my first year as both AVID coordinator and instructor. I have loved getting to know and learn more about the AVID program, a program I really believe in. I believe my job as their AVID teacher is to build a community, foster future leaders, and to help them set their sights on post-secondary education. When I think about the statistics that demonstrate the success of AVID, I am more committed than ever to bringing the program to our students.
When I'm not teaching I love to cook, read, and spend time with my two kids.
As an AVID teacher, my job is to help them find their determination and become the strongest student they can be. The journey is tough but they soon strive each day to build goals and make improvements each day. Their motivation helps drive me as a teacher to give them the best experience in AVID and in school. I am thankful each day I get to watch these students succeed and find their best!
I am so excited to work with my new AVID family and working with them to be their best each and every day!
I am ecstatic to be joining the AVID family this year an as elective teacher! This is my 7th year of teaching, my 5th at John Glenn Middle School. I graduated from North Dakota State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. In the fall of 2015 I completed a Master’s degree from UW-River Falls in Mathematics Education.
My job as the AVID Elective teacher is to help students realize their capabilities and do whatever it takes to provide them the support to be college and career ready. Over the years I have seen AVID students in my math class and witness how they grow to be independent, determined learners. It excites me that I will now be a part of helping AVID students find their individuality and using it to be successful in life!

I am honored to be one of the AVID 7 elective teachers. I have over a decade of teaching experience in Social Studies as well as Visual Arts. I received my BA from UW-LaCrosse and my MA from Concordia University.
My hobbies include drawing, painting, sculpture, travel, and aquarium fish. In my free time I voraciously consume current events and delicious food from as many regions and cultures as are available. I am fortunate to have a wife and daughter that share these interests... or at least tolerate and play along.
It's my belief that we are all life-long learners. The mission of AVID is to promote this by teaching all students "how to learn", to reveal purpose, and provide support in this journey. I look forward to being a part of the adventure.
