This course gives 5th grade students a fun, hands-on introduction to the world of business and entrepreneurship. Students will learn what businesses are, how they serve customers, and the basic steps of creating a simple business idea of their own. Through games, group projects, and classroom “mini-business” activities, students will explore topics such as goods and services, needs and wants, saving and spending, and teamwork and leadership. By the end of the course, students will better understand how businesses are part of their community and will practice communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills they can use everyday.

This course introduces 6th grade students to the world of business with a strong focus on personal financial literacy. Students will learn key money skills such as setting goals, creating a simple budget, understanding income and expenses, and making smart choices about saving and spending. They will also explore basic business ideas like goods and services, profit, and how businesses make decisions about money. Through real‑life scenarios, simulations, and small group projects, students will practice using math and critical thinking to solve everyday money problems, preparing them to be responsible, informed consumers and future entrepreneurs.

This class prepares students to be college and career ready by teaching them how to communicate through multimodal strategies, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, and presenting. This course engages students in problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership. Units of study include employment communication (resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, and interviewing), written communication (reports, memos, emails, websites, social media), and oral communication (presentations, press conferences, in-person meetings, teleconferences, videoconferences).

This course introduces students to the basics of business law and ethical decision‑making in the workplace. Students will explore real‑world topics such as contracts, consumer rights, employment law, and intellectual property, while also examining how personal values, ethics, and professional codes of conduct guide responsible business behavior. Through case studies, discussions, and role‑play scenarios, students will practice identifying legal issues, analyzing ethical dilemmas, and proposing fair, well‑reasoned solutions. This course is designed for students interested in business, entrepreneurship, or any career that requires understanding rights, responsibilities, and ethical choices in today’s world.

This innovative course prepares students to forge their own path towards career success by introducing them to key concepts in employability skills, education and training, the job application process, and more! Students will explore a range of career options in each of the 16 Career Clusters and develop an understanding of their own interests and abilities on their way to pursuing a career suited to their unique passions.

The goal of this course is to broaden student understanding of the Google Applications platform. Students will be introduced to Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, Sites, as well as working hands on with numerous projects in the Google Applied Digital Skills platform.

In this course, students will develop skills like creativity, problem solving, social media, management, technology application, and communication, all necessary for today’s technology driven industries. The course combines reading, writing, interviewing, videography, and editing skills to create a final product. Students will apply their knowledge and take pride in monthly publications of the school newsletter, Battler Proud videos, BLPS social media updates, and the creation & publication of the school YEARBOOK!

The goal of this course is to broaden student understanding of various computer programs. Students will be introduced to the Microsoft Office Suite, including: Word Processing (Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), Presentations (PowerPoint), Databases, and  learning to type by touch.

This course gives students a broad foundation in the digital tools and systems that power the modern world, with special emphasis on the origins and future of Artificial Intelligence. Students will explore the fundamentals of computer hardware and software, operating systems, and basic networking, while also building awareness of cybersecurity practices that keep data and devices safe. A key focus of the course is understanding how AI developed—from early computing and simple algorithms to today’s machine learning systems—and considering how AI is currently used in areas like communication, education, and business. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and guided projects, students will examine both the opportunities and challenges AI presents, helping them become informed, responsible users and future creators of technology.

This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of topics that will help them successfully manage their personal finances beyond high school. Managing careers & money - gross pay, net pay, benefits, income tax, filing taxes, budgets, checking, saving and banking; Managing credit - credit laws, costs of credit, problems with credit; Managing resources - spending habits, spending choices, renting, buying a home, buying a vehicle; Providing financial security - investing & the different choices available; Risk management – property insurance, auto insurance, health insurance. Units of study include: checking, saving, types of credit, managing credit, paying for college, budgeting, investing, behavioral economics, careers, taxes, insurance, consumer skills, and so much more!
