2025-2026 Classes
This class prepares students to be college and career ready by teaching them how to communicate through multimodal strategies, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, and presenting. This course engages students in problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership. Units of study include employment communication (resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, and interviewing), written communication (reports, memos, emails, websites, social media), and oral communication (presentations, press conferences, in-person meetings, teleconferences, videoconferences).
This innovative course prepares students to forge their own path towards career success by introducing them to key concepts in employability skills, education and training, the job application process, and more! Students will explore a range of career options in each of the 16 Career Clusters and develop an understanding of their own interests and abilities on their way to pursuing a career suited to their unique passions.
The goal of this course is to broaden student understanding of the Google Applications platform. Students will be introduced to Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, Sites, as well as working hands on with numerous projects in the Google Applied Digital Skills platform.
In this course, students will develop skills like creativity, problem solving, social media, management, technology application, and communication, all necessary for today’s technology driven industries. The course combines reading, writing, interviewing, videography, and editing skills to create a final product. Students will apply their knowledge and take pride in monthly publications of the school newsletter, Battler Proud videos, BLPS social media updates, and the creation & publication of the school YEARBOOK!
Have you ever wished you were the boss? Did you ever think you had a good idea for a product or service? Do you like to plan your own day and make your own decisions? Then you might consider entrepreneurship as a career. Entrepreneurship will introduce you to the process of starting and managing your own business. Students will create a business plan that includes market research, self-analysis, industry trends, forms of business, human resources, setting goals, defining target markets, identifying the marketing mix, managing risk and completing a financial plan. And when done, the students will present their product or service to a panel of local business owners in a “Shark Tank '' themed format.
The goal of this course is to broaden student understanding of various computer programs. Students will be introduced to the Microsoft Office Suite, including: Word Processing (Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), Presentations (PowerPoint), Databases, and learning to type by touch.
This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of topics that will help them successfully manage their personal finances beyond high school. Managing careers & money - gross pay, net pay, benefits, income tax, filing taxes, budgets, checking, saving and banking; Managing credit - credit laws, costs of credit, problems with credit; Managing resources - spending habits, spending choices, renting, buying a home, buying a vehicle; Providing financial security - investing & the different choices available; Risk management – property insurance, auto insurance, health insurance. Units of study include: checking, saving, types of credit, managing credit, paying for college, budgeting, investing, behavioral economics, careers, taxes, insurance, consumer skills, and so much more!
Principles of Marketing leads students to a thorough understanding of product, price, place, and promotion—the 4 P’s of marketing. In addition, students will learn how marketers conduct research, make decisions, and strategize to help sell goods and services, and will use this knowledge to complete a comprehensive marketing plan for a company. The skills introduced will help students make informed choices as consumers and plan for future careers in business and marketing.
