This course focuses on product design and construction. Students will experience technology with the use of sewing machines, heat presses, and other equipment while experimenting with emerging techniques and products in the field. Leadership skills, advanced problem solving, cooperative learning, safety skills, application of math skills, application of design elements & principles, and pride in task completion are all part of this course. The goal of Merchandise Design & Production is to help the students develop employability skills as they design, produce, market, and sell merchandise in and through the Battler Front School Store using industry standard equipment & software. Career opportunities will be explored through this course.
The goal of this course is to broaden student understanding of the Google Applications platform. Students will be introduced to Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings, Sites, as well as working hands on with numerous projects in the Google Applied Digital Skills platform.
Principles of Marketing explores foundational marketing concepts relevant to the global economy. This class introduces real-world skills that students will use in the classroom, the workplace, and beyond. This course facilitates student learning of marketing concepts, introducing fundamental topics such as marketing functions, marketing mix, and planning for a marketing career. It prepares students for the workplace by teaching them how to successfully apply marketing principles that influence the modern business environment with a focus on music, sports, and entertainment.
This is a blended course, covering both the world of Financial Literacy as well as the introduction to proper computer use and keyboarding. Students will be introduced to the financial building blocks for effective earning, spending, saving, investing, and giving through each stage of life; from how to manage a paycheck to understanding the time value of money, this course will prepare students to be financially fit for their future. At the same time, students will also have "hands on" exposure to the Microsoft Office Suite, including: Word Processing (Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), Presentations (PowerPoint), and learn to type by touch.
This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of topics that will help them successfully manage finances beyond high school: checking, saving, types of credit, managing credit, paying for college, budgeting, investing, behavioral economics, career, taxes, insurance, and consumer skills.
Tweets, likes, emojis: these words did not exist even a decade or two ago and yet they are now part of our everyday life. This class will prepare students for this evolving world of technology by providing foundational skills in digital marketing, social network platforms, and analytics. With communication and marketing as the overall focus, students will develop skills including creativity, analytical thinking, problem solving, media and technology application, and communication, necessary for today’s technology driven industries. The course combines technical, reading, and writing skills. Some recurring projects students will manage throughout this course is the "What's New @ 542" school newsletter, monthly Battler Proud video, and updating/maintenance of the digital history board.
In this course, students will develop and enhance workplace communication skills. Units of study include employment communication (resumes, cover and thank you letters, and interviewing), written communication (reports, memos, emails, web sites, social media), and oral communication (presentations, press conferences, in-person meetings, teleconferences, videoconferences). Application of technology, such as computer and keyboard skills, phone etiquette and usage, and social media, is emphasized throughout the course. Students are encouraged to participate in BPA to enhance and apply their learning.
Introduces the principles and practices of planning and organizing events such as: meetings, conferences, weddings, family reunions, cruises, sporting events, or conventions. Topics include site location and suitability, logistics of the planning process, market and sales research, sponsorship, public relations, risk management, and careers in the event planning industry. This class provides students with an in-depth understanding of what it takes to plan and execute a successful event. It also provides business and self-employment guidance so you can equip yourself with the marketing, financial, and managerial skills needed to succeed.
