Welcome to Battle Lake Early Childhood Program! My name is Ms. Tessa- I am the 4s Preschool teacher!

I love Preschool because they are such curious learners who just love exploring new things! In Battle Lake Preschool we focus on hands-on learning as we believe preschoolers learn the most through PLAY! We learn many math, cognitive, literacy, and social-emotional skills. We emphasize on the interest and goals of each individual child as they enter our program!   Our goal is to support each student to develop a love for learning, and social skills, and prepare them for the next step in their education all while being silly!

A little bit about OUR classroom:

Themes: Themes are a part of our curriculum where we have "studies". We focus on a topic, and it guides our learning for the two weeks we are studying the theme. Some themes might be All about me, Community helpers, Food, 5 senses, in relation to a holiday, spring and flowers, weather, etc. Themes may also adjust based on what the children are interested in. We want to be student-centered and base our learning on what the children want to learn!!

Show-n-Tell is based upon the letter we are exploring for the week! The children get creative to find something that starts with the focused letter.

Centers: Centers are our areas to dive into learning and play.  We have a reading center, dramatic play center, block center, science and math center, art center, and sensory center. These combine the power of play and academics. Children learn best from hands-on learning!

Partners in Play:

While in centers, once in a while we have Partners in Play in which we focus on Social/Emotional skills such as working together, collaborating, making choices, and learning how to be a team! This provides many languages and social-emotional skills.

Community and School outreach: We love to make real-world connections with the world around us! Throughout the year we have many guest visitors in the classroom either within our own Prek-12 school or the community! We also go on field trips around our town. We believe when we connect our learning in the classroom to our very own community- more learning happens!
