meet the DAPE Team!

Andrea Bacon, DAPe LEad

We are a team of hard-working, innovative Smile-Makers. We bring joy and fun to students who need support with gross motor skills through a variety of creative lessons, cooperative games, and lifetime and leisure activities. Our focus is to improve students’ gross motor skills based on each individual’s specific needs and abilities.

What do we do?

Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) is physical education, which may be adapted or modified to address the individualized needs of students ages 3 through 21, who have gross motor developmental delays. DAPE activities may include focuses on development of physical fitness, motor fitness, fundamental motor skills and patterns, skills in aquatics, dance, individual and group games, and sports. DAPE is developmentally appropriate physical education at its finest. It is adapting, modifying, and/or changing a physical activity so it is as appropriate for the person with a disability as it is for a person without a disability.
