La Crescent-Hokah High School requires 48 credits to graduate. We count each semester course as one credit.
Students need to maintain at least 6 credits each semester to be considered a full time student and be on track towards meeting graduation requirements.
Students may have one study hall each semester and still be on track to graduate.
Students that take more courses early on still need to be in 6 classes each semester of every year, even if they are ahead in credits. The only exception is if they are enrolled in a college level course (AP, Concurrent Enrollment, or PSEO courses) and are ahead with credits. In that case, students may have 2 study halls in one semester.
The Minnesota Department of Education requires students to take a Chemistry and/or Physics course for Graduation. La Crescent also offers Investigative Biology and Environmental Studies. The combination of these two classes will meet the Chemistry standards for graduation. However, many four year college programs require Chemistry and/or Physics for admissions. They would not accept the elective courses as a Chemistry or Physics course. Students need to check any admissions requirements of schools they are interested in to make sure they are taking the appropriate courses.
La Crescent offers Spanish, however, we do not have a Foreign Language requirement for graduation. Many four year colleges do have a foreign language requirement for admissions. At least two consecutive years of Foreign Language is recommended for anyone planning to attend a four year college or university. Students need to check any admissions requirements of schools they are interested in to make sure they are taking the appropriate courses.
Here are the requirements for specific credits for graduation. Items listed as "state requirements" means that specific courses within that content area must be taken to meet graduation requirements. Please keep in mind that for our school, one semester of a course equals one credit.
