Child Development and Parenting

This class is designed primarily for juniors or seniors. Child Development and Parenting addresses the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors associated with supporting and promoting optimal growth and development of infants and children. The focus is on research-based nurturing and parenting practices and skills, including brain development research, that support positive development of children. Basic research methods and developmental theories will be introduced. Students will have the opportunity to travel off campus to observe and work with young children. Students will also practice being a parent when they care for a simulated baby.
