Our Reading curriculum consists:
a weekly story
literary concept (i.e. plot o figurative language)
vocabulary
a weekly test
Accelerated Reader
Students in fifth grade required to read high-interest novels that can be found on the Accelerated Reading program. Please encourage your child to read each night for a minimum of 20 minutes. Feel free to have your child read independently or enjoy the book together.
First Quarter: 12 points
Second Quarter: 14 points
Third Quarter: 16 points
Fourth Quarter: 18 points

As a class, we will read a variety of novels this school year. Students will listen to and discuss the novel in a whole group setting. This benefits students to develop comprehension, fluency, and an exposure to a novel that they might not usually choose to read.
