Classroom Community

Classroom Community

The classroom provides an environment for children to experience peer relationships and to create their own community of learning. A strong classroom community is one in which students feel empowered and valued, and one in which children will ultimately thrive.

In our classroom, we have a variety of classroom community building activities. These activities provide opportunities to build relationships, support one another, share stories or experiences, and have fun.

Monday mindfulness

When we teach mindfulness to kids, we give them the tools they need to build confidence, cope with stress, and become more in-tune with their emotions.

Tuesday- Gratituesday

On the last Tuesday of every month, students identify one or multiple things that they are grateful for. We can be grateful for people, things in our lives, locations, events, nature etc.

Students write what they are grateful for and share with the class. The gratitude writing are posted in the classroom on the "Gratitude Wall". Over the course of the school year, the "Gratitude Wall" is filled.

Wednesday & THursday

On Wednesday or Thursday students participate in a classroom community building activity or game.

Fridge Friday

On Friday's, students have to opportunity to participate in "Fridge Friday." This is a time for students to share with the class things they are proud of or excited about (things worthy of hanging on the fridge).

In the past, students have brought in rocks they have found, their grandfather's watch, drawings and paintings, ukuleles, books, and pictures. If students would like to, they are welcome to hang items on our classroom fridge!
