Expectations and Policies

Homework

One of the questions I am often asked is about homework. How much should you expect your child to have? Well, that will vary greatly from day to day and from child to child. I usually try to give students enough time in class to get most, if not all, of their assignments done at school, but this obviously depends on our schedule as well as how well your child gets to work. I also will have some assignments that the students may have several days or more to get done. This means they need to plan ahead, to make sure they don’t put it off until the last minute.

Not Done Slips / Noon Club

Every student in my class is given one “freebie” the first quarter. This means if they are not done with an assignment, they just have to get it done, and that’s it. Every other time they are not done with any assignment they will receive a “Not Done Slip” and a “Noon Club.”

A “Not Done Slip” is a little yellow piece of paper that the student must fill out, staple into their assignment notebook, have signed by a parent/guardian, and bring back the next day. This is a tool that I invented several years ago, as a way to keep parents informed and help them be aware if their child is having trouble getting their work done on time.

“NoonClub” is an idea that I got from my Dad, when he was a teacher. Noon Club is a 5th grade classroom each day for the kids to go, if they did not get their assignment(s) done. They need to bring work to do, and/or a book to read (in case they finish before the time is up).

Please feel free to ask your child about either of these, and also you can always contact me if you have any questions. Thanks!!!
