Hi, my name is Molly McDonald. It's my privilege to experience art with your child, kindergarten through 3rd grade. I'm very excited to get another year underway with 50 minute long art classes! How time flies...it will be my 16th year in the district!

Background Information:

I grew up in Southwestern Minnesota in Slayton. I went to college at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I then did my student teaching in Houston, TX. My first teaching job was at Edgerton, MN at the Public school. I started here in the fall of 2007.

Extending my Education:

I completed my Masters of Art in Education and a certificate in Urban Teaching from Hamline University in 2012. I was able to take many classes based on culture and race. I plan to continue to incorporate these ideas in more lessons this year.

In the past, I have taken part in a grant ran program through the PAINT. It allowed Mrs. Grant and I to work together to develop and implement arts-integrated lessons that were student-centered and standards-based. We learned strategies for integrating the arts:

  • with other content areas in meaningful, engaging ways;

  • aligning standards, learning goals, and assessments;

  • and reflecting on and learning from student work.

I look forward to continuing to incorporate what I have learned from the PAINT Program.

I enjoy sharing my love for both teaching and art by hosting Student Teachers from WSU as well.

Feeding the Soul with Art...

During College, I enjoy working with fibers and clay in the art world. These days I find myself working with more 2D materials. In the classroom, I love teaching all the mediums. The more excited the kids are, the happier I am to teach it! Exposing students to new materials always brings me great joy. I also try to incorporate as much culture into my lessons as possible at this age level.

About Me:

My parents raised my four siblings and I in a small town much like Plainview. Now that we are grown we are all across the state, but we manage to still stay close. I have three nephews and four nieces. I enjoy spending time with my husband, 3 children, siblings, friends and cat Bruce Lee. Being outside is where I love to be in my free time. It can be at a lake, river, bike trail, or on a walk around town.
