History

The JWP Speech Team was coached from 1983-1987 by Mr. George Tuvey. He loved coaching the category of Discussion, and always had very strong competitors in this category.

Phoniece Wittt then lead the team from 1988-1989. Unfortunately, after Mrs. Witt's retirement, the team disbanded without a coach at its helm.

Based on student interest, the team was re-established in 2003 by Johnna Horton.

In 2004 the team was co-coached by Johnna Horton and Jessie Oelke. Horton left the team in 2006 and Oelke has remained the head coach until present.

While the team has ranged in the number of members each year (35 being the largest), many members have earned a trip to the MN State Tournament:
