SOUTH SUBURBAN CONFERENCE PURSUIT CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

Format:

The South Suburban Conference Championship meet is a regular season ending, single day pursuit format ski race.  At the discretion of coaches, the order of races can be changed. Skating distance will be 5K for the girls and 5K for the boys.  Classical distance will be 5K for the girls and 5K for the boys.

The start list for the first day will be based on a random draw. There will be a different draw for all ten (10) seeds, for both the boys and girls’ races.  The pursuit start will consist of a side by side start line, with at least two lanes.  This enables skiers with the same time from the first race to start at the same time in the pursuit.

Entries:

Each school is allowed a maximum of ten (10) varsity participants. Any JV racers should be limited to those competing for a spot on the section team and can be released no sooner than fifteen (15) minutes AFTER the last starter is released.  JV will not be inserted into the pursuit format.

Scoring:

Team scoring is based on the second day combined pursuit results ONLY.  The individual classic and/or skate times play NO ROLE in the team scoring.  Points for the first five finishers on a team are added.  Points are NOT awarded to skiers beyond the first five (i.e. a racer who finishes seventh (7th), behind six skiers from one team, gets the points for sixth place).  The base for the conference meet is five (5) times the number of teams participating.

Awards:

South Suburban Conference medals will be awarded to the top Ten boys and girls in the pursuit only.  A traveling trophy will go to the "South Suburban Conference Pursuit Meet Champion."  The current champion must bring the trophy to the meet for presentation to the new champion.

Tie Breaker:

Tie breaker rules are the same as the conference meet tie breaker rules.  Tie breakers are based on the combined pursuit results ONLY.
