When will my instrument be delivered?
If your child is participating in the August Beginning Band Camp (held through Lakeville Community Education), and you ordered an instrument from one of the music stores listed above, instruments will be delivered to the band camp location. If you are not participating in the beginning band camp in August the instrument can be picked up from the music store or will be delivered to the school for the first day of lessons in September.

*All students will need our lesson book: Tradition of Excellence, Book 1 (red cover). It can be found at any of the music stores or online.
There are 3 main ways of obtaining an instrument for your child to use in 5th grade band:
1. Rent from a local music store
This is the most highly recommended option. You can rent a musical instrument from a music store on a "lease-to-own" plan that includes options for a music stand, lesson book, and repair plan (often needed). The instrument will belong to you and you can be assured it will be a quality instrument in good working condition. Our local music stores include Groth Music, The Music Mart, Schmitt Music, and Eckroth Music.
2. Buying a quality new/used instrument or already owning an instrument
This option is great if you know someone that has an instrument or have had a family member that played your instrument before. DO NOT BUY AN INSTRUMENT OFF OF AMAZON (or from other non-music specific stores). Many of these instruments are tempting because of the lower cost. The reality of these instruments is that they will break very easily and cannot be repaired. The material is thin and fragile and the reeds/accessories that come with them do not allow students to make sound.
There are many people who contact us each year with quality used instruments that they are looking to sell. Often these are just as low cost as an Amazon instrument, but they are fully functional and will last. Please contact your band teacher to see if you wish to buy a used instrument or have questions about a specific brand. It can save you money and guarantee a quality instrument.
3. Band is for ALL - School Rentals
The school does have a collection of instruments to rent/use if the other options are not available for your family at this time. We reserve these instruments for families that need them and have a limited supply. If this option will allow your student to be in band, please let us know and we will make sure there is an instrument available for them. The fee is $125 for the entire year, but will be reduced/eliminated if necessary. These rentals are run through the school store on Infinite Campus, and the cost will remain confidential.
