Courses overview
Students will learn and apply German grammar and vocabulary through culture and universal, relatable themes like: introducing myself and others; school; family; hobbies; sports; food; and travel. Students will develop the essential language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing by engaging with authentic materials in German. Students will share their ideas using German and are able to engage in social conversations as well as interpret and respond to text, media and digital content. Lessons will focus on American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards. The goal areas are: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons and Communities.

What will you need?
A quality, sturdy notebook: Composition preferred. Plan on using this same notebook for several years.
Folder for handouts
Chromebook or similar
A pencil or pen and a highlighter
Headphones or earbuds with microphone.
The dictionary we will use is leo.de (Google Translate is a tool for learning a language, but it can hinder language learning when used frequently.) You do not need to buy a physical dictionary unless you prefer it.
Class Rules and Expectations
BE KIND
Be Prepared by bringing your charged chromebook, supplies & completed work.
Be Respectful. Turn off your cellphones or set them on silent mode when you come to class. (See student handbook for more detail.) Use materials, furniture and equipment appropriately.
Show Integrity: Complete your work to the best of your own ability. If you can’t produce language yourself, don’t include it. Cheating includes the use of online translators such as Google.translate, speakers with a higher degree of fluency than yours, or text found on the Internet. You will need to redo any work inconsistent with your demonstrated skill level.
Be Dependable. Be willing to participate and talk. be a dependable partner.
Show Excellence. Work on German vocabulary 10+ minutes every day so you will excel. Just like sports or music, you must practice to achieve excellence.
