Coaching Staff

Nick Redman - Head Boys Coach & Long and Triple Jump

Coach Redman is now in his tenth season with the Storm Track and Field program, and this is his seventh year serving as boys Head Coach. Although a mediocre athlete at best, Coach Redman showed an aptitude for motivation and leadership as a part of the Owatonna Track and Field program in high school, even earning a title of Captain along with the Nolan Randall award for outstanding leadership in his senior year. Though he has a competitor's heart, his strongest traits have always been his ability to get others to be their best and reach their ultimate potential. When he’s not coaching or teaching Physical Education, Red enjoys playing Pretend GM in his fantasy football leagues, cooking (check out @Redmaneats on Instagram), and most of all- being a husband and Dad. “It’s going to be a great season- get ready because we are about to set the foundation for the next decade. One Storm!”

Jessica Matheson - Head Girls Coach & Short Sprints & Relays

In addition, I’ve completed the coaching course through the American Sports Education Program and am a USA Track and Field Level 1 registered coach.

Chris Schriever - Mid-Distance & Relays

I have been coaching track and field since 2003. I have started out as the long and triple jump coach at Chaska that year and held that position until the end of the 2009 track season.  I was fortunate to have coached many successful jumpers during that time.  We have multiple conference and section jumps champions. In the spring of 2009, I moved to Chanhassen High Schools as the head girls track and field coach, where I also coached sprinters. During my time as head coach, we had many individual conference, section and state champions. As a team, we were conference champions 3 times, section champions 4 times, place 3rd at the state track and field meet in 2014 and were runners-up at the state track and field meet in 2015.  I have continued to work with sprinters since I stepped down as the head coach in 2016.  This year, I will be coaching out 400m and 800m runners and am very excited. I look forward to working closely with our athletes to improve themselves as athletes, students and people.

I was selected as the 2003 and 2012 Section 6AA boys coach of the year, the 2012 MN coaches' association coach of the year, the 2012 Gill Central region coach of the year and named a finalist for the 2012 national HS coach of the year. I am nearing the end of my 31st year teaching PE in the Minnetonka school system having taught at both Groveland Elementary and Minnetonka HS.  I am often found working out on the Chan track each summer, where I still occasionally compete at the Masters level. I managed to win a title in the US National Masters Championship in the 2013 110 High Hurdles and the 2014 400M hurdles in the age 45-49 division. Derek Jensen -  Pole Vault

Mark Lacy - Shot Put & Discus

I am a 1988 Graduate of Downers Grove North High School in Illinois, where I competed in Football, Wrestling, and Track. I then went to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, where I was fortunate to compete for Minnesota Legends Roy Griak, Lynn Andeson, Colin Anderson, and Phil Lundin. While a Golden Gopher, I served as the team captain, won Big Ten titles in 1991 and 1992, received All-American Honors those same years, and finished my career as number three on the all-time list. While finishing my degree in Applied Economics, I coached the multi-event athletes in the shot put and discus. The next year, I found myself as the assistant strength coach for women's sports at the U.

I transitioned for two years to Augsburg College as the throws coach, before accepting a teaching position at Chaska High School in 1997. I coached the throwers at Chaska High School until 2000 when I took a position working with the shot putters at Gustavus Adolphus College. I was lucky to work alongside Tom Thorkelson and guide Luke Speltz to 8 MIAC shot put titles.

A growing family had me cut back on my coaching, now with my children getting older, I felt it was time to get back into coaching to give back to the sport I love. I am very excited to be working with the throwers!
