To apply to become a paraprofessional in District 109, you must first obtain a paraprofessional license.
To qualify for a paraprofessional license you must
possess one of the following:
Associate’s degree or higher
60 semester hours of coursework
High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro

High School Diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Workkeys:
Applied Mathematics/Applied Math (with a score of 4)
Reading for information/Workplace Documents (with a score of 4)

Step # 1: Log in to the Educator Licensure Information System at www.isbe.net/ELIS (existing user)

Step #2: From the Action Center, select “apply for a credential" and choose "Paraprofessional License (Teacher's Aide)
Step #3: Complete application and pay application fee (reimbursable).
*Note: The Illinois State Board of Education will reimburse your application fee once you substitute for 10 or more days after receiving your license. Ask your Regional Office of Education or Intermediate Service Center for more details once you receive employment.
Step #4: Have your college submit the transcripts to
licensure@s-cook.org.
Step #5: The Illinois State Board of Education will issue your license automatically once the transcripts are verified and
test scores received (if required)
Step #6: Register your license in ELIS to region 7. You now have a license valid for employment!
