In this unit, we will explore how we can adapt ideas to serve specific communities in a global context
Research into markets and global contexts allows one to adapt ideas to express the culture of specific communities
Communities
Adaptation, Markets and trends
Personal and cultural expression
Philosophies and ways of life
What digital coding platforms are available for creating interactive visual experiences?
What are some examples of successful cultural adaptations in digital media?
How do cultural elements translate into digital experiences?
In what ways can digital platforms be used to express cultural nuances?
How might adapting cultural ideas for a global audience impact their authenticity?
To what extent should cultural representations be adapted for global audiences?
Is it ethical to commercialize cultural elements for a global market?
You have been approached by the Global Ambassador of a country and asked to bring their country's culture to the world. You will need to research and understand key characteristics of the culture, and decide how to bring this to light using a digital coding platform by creating an interactive and/or immersive visual experience for the target audience.
You will respond to the need to represent and market the country on a global stage and the importance and need for tourism.
For Criterion A, you will be conducting comprehensive research to develop your Design Brief. You will create a presentation that identifies the need to solve the problem and includes research on the tourism industry, specifically as it relates to your chosen country.
Choose a Country: Select any nation that intrigues you. It could be a place you've always dreamed of visiting or one with a culture that fascinates you.
Explore Cultural Richness: Dive deep into your chosen country's heritage. Uncover three distinct cultural aspects that make this nation unique. These could be traditions, art forms, cuisines, festivals, or any other cultural elements that capture the country's spirit.
Understand Visual Installation: Analyse existing visual animations to see how you can create something that will represent your country's culture and identity.
Marketing to a Global Audience: Consider how your animation can appeal to people from different backgrounds. How can you make your chosen country's culture relatable and exciting to a diverse, global audience?
Begin the presentation by providing a brief overview of the problem statement and the need to solve this problem.
Explain the importance of showcasing and representing a country's culture to other cultures and represent a country on a global stage.
Analyze the tourism industry to consider how it is affected by marketing.
Highlight the importance of attracting tourists to your country and the relevance of this to its economy.
Explain your research methodology to be used to gather information about the problem.
State your research questions you need to answer.
Describe the sources used, such as surveys, interviews, and online research.
Pick a culture from around the world. This can be a country, part of a country, or simply a specific subculture.
Consider how this culture represents itself
Include evidence about the culture's ways of representation, such as the culture's values/beliefs, traditions, sports, clothing, branding and persona
Present three interesting and relevant facts about your country that would attract tourists.
Provide supporting evidence for each fact, such as statistics, cultural aspects, or unique attractions.
Explain how these facts contribute to the overall objective of attracting tourists.
Choose one existing visual installation in the world to analyse. This can be completely unrelated to tourism or your country.
Describe the installation, its purpose, and its impact on its audience.
Analyze the elements that make the installation effective and appealing to the target audience.
Summarize the problem, the client, and the target audience (i.e., domestic and international tourists).
Present the research findings, including the three facts about your country and the analysis of the existing visual installation.
Define your objective: to create an animation (visual installation) to represent your country's culture on a global stage and attract touristm.
Broadly explain the deliverables of the project, such as the final animation and any accompanying materials.
Include video or audio clips of interviews conducted.
Discuss the insights gained from these interviews, such as their perceptions of different countries, their preferences, and their expectations as tourists.
Summarize the main points discussed in the presentation.
Emphasize the importance of representing a country on the global stage.

For Criterion B, you need to focus on the mood that you are setting for your solution. This will involve creating a set of video mood boards and a initial static programmed prototype.
Start with a set of Design Specifications. Be clear about the elements that you want to include in your solution.
Your Design Specifications will stem from mind maps and static mood boards and should be listed in a table format that details the particular characteristics of your solution in detail.
Create two distinct mood boards.
Each mood board should represent a unique design direction, showcasing different visual elements, textures, colors, and overall aesthetics.
Your mood boards must include photographs, text, iconography, a colour palette and music.
Provide a paragraph to fully and critically justify your chosen design direction based on the Criterion A design brief.
The paragraph should critically analyze how your design direction aligns with the design brief and meets the identified needs and constraints.
Provide evidence and reasoning to support the chosen direction.
Once you have a design direction, you will create a static P5JS prototype with at least three distinct scenes.
The programmed solution should reflect the design specifications outlined in the table and incorporate elements from the video mood boards.
