Tierklinik Basel

Tierklinik Basel is a 24h small animal clinic located at Bottmingerstrasse 65, 4142 Münchenstein that many ISB families use.

Veterinarian

There are many veterinarians in the area, and like most local health care providers, speak clear English, though the assistants may be stronger in German so have your dictionary ready for making appointments.

Dog Communities

We recommend that to get to know the community and its resources, two of our favorites are the dog owners who do the Wednesday Dog Walks that depart from ISB Reinach campus each week and the Facebook Group called Basel Dogs who are supportive and great for asking all sorts of questions.

PET REGULATIONS

It’s always best to check with your particular Gemeinde but, in general, to bring your pet into the country, you'll need to follow these steps.

You will need to register your pet with the Gemeinde and pay an annual fee.
You need to get your pet a passport that includes its vaccination record.
Finally, you must include pets in your personal liability insurance coverage.

Switzerland has strict and less common animal wellbeing rules that you should learn. Some examples are

- exercise minimums
- the need to keep rabbits in pairs
- no yelling at barking dogs
- picking up waste

Pet Access

Pets are allowed in most outdoor restaurants and many stores.
They can ride the Basel tram for free if they fit into a bag, but need a half-fare ticket if they aren’t in a bag.
They can not go into most shops that sell food like supermarkets, bakeries and butchers as well as many playgrounds.
The leash rules are seasonal to protect baby wild animals born in the spring. Dogs must stay on-leash from April 1-July 31, within 50 meters of the woods, in Basel Stadt and Basel Land.
