You may be more accustomed to neigbours dropping in to say hello when you move into a new place or locality, but in Switzerland it works the other other way around. You are expected to take the first step to get to know your neighbours. You can knock on their door to introduce yourself and can take a little treat along. It always helps to ease the initial awkwardness. Sometimes families also organize an 'apero' at home and invite the neighbours over.
